Certification helps ensure surgical instruments are clean, sterile, and well-functioning, and that sterile processing department (SPD) or Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) professionals possess the essential skills necessary to manage critical departmental duties safely, effectively, and consistently.

Annual renewals of certifications enable CSSD/SPD professionals to stay current on ever-evolving surgical technology, standards, and best practices.

CERTIFIED REGISTERED CENTRAL SERVICE TECHNICIAN (CRCST)

The introductory certification for CSSD/SPD professionals.
The CRCST certification program is designed to recognize entry-level and existing technicians who have demonstrated the experience, knowledge and skills necessary to provide competent services as a Sterile Processing technician.

CRCSTs are integral members of the healthcare team who are responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, disassembling, packaging, and sterilizing reusable surgical instruments or devices in a healthcare facility.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED:

  • Cleaning, Decontamination and Disinfection (20%).
  • Preparation and Packaging (20%).
  • Documentation and Record Maintenance (10%).
  • Sterilization Process (20%).
  • Customer Relation (10%).
  • Sterile Storage and Inventory Management (10%).
  • Patient Care Equipment (10%).

ACCREDITATION:

HSPA/IAHCSMM’s Certification is accredited by both:

  • The American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
  • The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
