This webinar will provide an overview on the role played by Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in a multidimensional approach to planning, managing and improving the MD reprocessing cycle, contributing to higher quality standards and enhance Patient Safety.
Health technology assessment is a systematic and evidence-based methodology that considers the multiple dimensions (safety, effectiveness, economic and organizational aspects, etc.), answering to four main factors: whether the technology works; for whom; at what cost; how it compares with the alternatives.
The reprocessing cycle needs to be designed according to the service required (operating rooms, outpatient clinics, wards, etc.): workflow and throughput need to be planned and controlled accordingly.
The quality of the reprocessing cycle can be assessed by measuring its effectiveness (positive validation tests), its efficiency (reliability, time between failures) and traceability.
The effectiveness and the efficiency of the reprocessing cycle are achieved through proper selection, use and maintenance of the equipment involved (decontaminators, washers/disinfectors, sterilizers) and technological updates.
The overall quality of the reprocessing also depends on the instruments and MD; this depends on their selection and their sizing that needs take preventative maintenance programs into account in order to avoid unplanned repairs.
This is the fifth webinar dedicated to “Challenges of Medical Device Reprocessing”, presented by ASP Continuous Education.
